Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof says the Wynne Liberals are giving the impression that they don’t care about the north. Vanthof says five years ago when he was first elected, then northern development minister Rick Bartolucci talked about building a refinery in Capreol for the Ring of Fire. It never happened and Vanthof says we’ve gone from that scenario to the total disappearance of the chromite project in last Thursday’s budget. Vanthof says that should be a concern to northerners who have helped build this province. Vanthof says maybe the mining project isn’t mentioned because the Liberals are finally showing their true colours and don’t care about the north. What surprises Vanthof is that for the last two years, the Liberals re-committed $1 billion towards the project but didn’t spend anything. He believes they could have easily recommitted the $1 billion last week.
