When the annual Relay for Life in West Nipissing holds its regular fundraiser in June it will be under a different name. Spokeswoman Shirley Perrin says the cancer society head office is no longer letting small communities hold the event. Perrin, who is a cancer survivor, doesn’t know what caused the change but the organizing committee has overcome that hurdle. It’s calling its new event Celebrate Our Survivors. Perrin says the June 9th event, which is still looking for a site, will still include the lighting of the luminaries and survivor’s lap. However the balloon release won’t be back for ecological reasons. Perrin says if there are survivors who want to take part, call her at 753-4061 or Anna Leblanc at 753-0207.
