Regional Chief mostly supportive of federal budget

For the most part, Ontario’s Regional Chief likes the federal budget.  Isadore Day says the budget allocated about half what First Nations were asking for in health dollars.  Despite this, Day says the extra money reserves will receive over the next five years is a step in the right direction.  Day says the feds remain committed to eliminating all boil water advisories on Ontario reserves by 2021.  About 80 reserves still have water advisories in place.  Meanwhile, Day isn’t sure yet if the budget puts money into child welfare or if a two percent funding cap has been replaced with a sliding formula.  Day says he and First Nation leaders will next analyze the budget to see if there’s any new money for things like child care and policing.
