Distracted driving number one killer on Ontario roadways: again

Distracted driving killed 65 people in Ontario last year.  Inattentive drivers were the leading cause of roadway deaths for a fourth straight year.  Police are releasing the number has they get ready to launch their annual distracted driving campaign.   In an effort to stop people from talking on their cells while driving, conviction penalties have become severe.   If you fight a distracted driving ticket and are found guilty, you could get a fine up to one thousand dollars and three demerit points on your license.  OPP say the number two cause of roadway deaths last year was speeding which killed 55 people and improper seatbelt usage killed 53 people.  Alcohol related deaths, which used to be the number one roadway killer, are now fourth with 45 people dying last year.
