Police officer rescues injured bald eagle

A bald eagle that was injured in Northern Ontario is now under the care of the Guelph Veterinary Clinic.  Somehow the injured bird got stuck in the Mattawa River Sunday evening but got itself to shore where a passerby spotted it and called the OPP.  The officer rescuing the bird was told he’d have to watch for the eagle’s sharp talons.   So after climbing down an embankment and approaching the eagle, he lay his coat over the bird and was able to carry it safely to his cruiser.  By luck an expert bird handler was making a presentation in North Bay and arrangements were made to have the eagle sent to the Guelph clinic.
