It’s a number the Noelville OPP want to see reduced dramatically. Up to the end of October, 81 percent of the 9-1-1 calls to the detachment were non-emergency. The detachment commander says these calls are the result of pocket dialling where someone accidentally calls 9-1-1. Acting Staff Sergeant Rick MacKay is asking people to take 9-1-1 off auto-dial. He says it’s because it only takes a moment to hit the three numbers. MacKay says constantly responding to non-emergency calls may one day make police late for a real crisis that results in tragedy because they weren’t there in time.
