Blue-green algae bloom reported in Lake Nipissing

A blue-green algae bloom has been reported in the West Arm of Lake Nipissing near the West Arm Narrows, according to the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.

Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae or pond scum, have cells that can produce toxins that are a health concern to humans and animals. They are not really algae, but bacteria.

You can be exposed to the toxins if you drink the water, your skin contacts the water, you inhale water droplets or if you eat contaminated food.
